Sasori_Te
I really don't know where you guys get this stuff about hurting one of a group and having that effect anyone else in that group. If it was me and I was a member of that group and you hurt my friend, that would be that much more pain headed your way. You cannot assume anything in a street situation, especially that all those techniques and martial philosphies that you have practiced in class are invincible, or are even going to work at all. There are no trophies and glory to be had in a street fight. The only trophy is your @ss home in one piece. That is definitely a trophy you don't want someone taking from you and handing back to you on their terms. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw. Coudo
I would agree on that point... ofcourse, I would think the exact same thing, but hurting one severly diminiches their manpower to take you down, that is, it is better to hurt one and run than to just run... cause if they challenge you they are still gonna chase you down, and they wont get any faster by you taking one out, quite the opposite, atleast one will stay and make sure the beaten would get up and be ready to run after the guy, after that, well the situation is the same except you have say 2 instead of 4 guys after you though they are more motivated now to catch you... its just up to the situation to pick which one is better. I know a guy who got trapped in an alley by 4 guys, now he attacked the "leader" which was very unexpected, and then he just bursted through the other 3 who were stunned by him punching the first guy, and then he made a run for it, and got away... (this happened very fast) Now these guys didn't try to hurt him again because he and he's friends made it very clear to them that it was pointless. Ofcourse everyone acts pretty much on instinct when something like this happens, and that instinct may be fear, calm or rage... I'm just giving an alternative to just running... and the worst thing you could do in this case is grapple... you do not want to fall on the ground, especially battling with one of the guys, then youre pretty much hospitalized right there. You dont even want to stay there.. If you want to take on more than one guy then I suggest 'krav maga', the military kind, and I suggest you get good at it... Or you could do as someone else already suggested, pack heat!
jarrettmeyer
Man, where are all of these dark alleys? I'm so glad that I live in Indiana. I'm not saying that we don't have gangs and muggers, etc. I can go to downtown Indianapolis which is well lit, has lots of people, and be just fine. Yes, there are even bad parts of Indy, and I am lucky enough that I never have a reason to be in those places. I've been in Washington DC, Chicago, and LA, and I've been in areas where one city block means the difference between walking casually with your wife on a well-lit street, hand-in-hand, taking a wrong turn, and being instantly anxious. I've always just turned around and said, "Oops, wrong way." But, importantly and luckily, I've always had the choice. It's sad to know that there are so many places that aren't safe for adults and children. Or even worse, it's sad to hear that there are MA students who purposefully go out looking for a fight to test their skills. WorKshoP
I think i was stuck in one of those situations (which i would avoid at all costs) i'd tend to use teep kicks, low thai kicks on the side of the knees to keep people at a good range and if someone came in i'd go for a knee to the head or use my elbows but in such a scenario of being teamed up against you, the % of chances of you winning is low and the one of winning without a scratch is very very low... unless the "gang" vs you has no experience in fighting and they usually do

Been there, done that, siblings and kin are more aggresive when they see a brethern go down. A lot of people have "theories" except those that have been in many situations-and not school junk either.
