You can't handle it when someone challenged your beliefs, right?

I know where you can claim one-million dollars if you can simply provide evidence of this "Ki" energy.

Certainly can. But after explaining it as simply and clearly as possible and getting back the same, 'It's a trick' response I get tired.

Ki is real, it's a natural energy that permeates through all living beings?

I doubt it. Perhaps you confuse Ki for Calories.

Why so sarcastic, Ken? Nothing intelligent to say?

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm sincere in my statements.

JEM618, why are you taking such offense to someone that doesn't take what you say at face value? Just because you say it is so doesn't neccessarily make it so.

I have seen and experienced things in the martial arts that I can't explain. I don't think of them as anything other than natural functions of the human body, only ones that I hadn't experienced before. Just because I have experienced these things doesn't mean that I expect everyone to believe me when I talk about them.

Have you ever considered that his "trick" and your technique are the same thing? Think about it. All martial arts really does is teach you "tricks" to control your opponent and yourself. It's a matter of semantics really.

Besides, as long as the technique works for you, what does it really matter what someone else thinks? What's that old saying? You can lead a horse to knowledge but you can't make him think? ...something like that :)

A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.

I know some people have thought I had some "chi" powers, until I showed them the purely physical mechanics behind the feats.

My point exactly Sasori_Te, seems like we are caught up in semantics. I believe what I believe because of my experience and he believes what he believes because of misconception. My definition, understanding, and experience with ‘ki’ is one thing his is another. There is really no problem in that. No harm, no foul. To discuss the point beyond this is moot. Search my posts you will have a deeper understanding of my beliefs and feelings. In 1902 when people claimed powered flight was impossible most agreed. In 1903, when the first plane flew, it put debate to rest. 101 years later powered flight is just something we all take for granted. We have passenger planes that carry 4-500 people at a time, jet fighters fly at two or three times the speed of sound, we’ve been to the moon and back….

I offer this, from Ueshiba sensei, off the top of my head…

Rely not on the brush or mouth for an understanding of the art.

Attain enlightenment through practice.

He insisted that no matter how good someone wrote about technique (remember in his day, they did not use pencils or pens but brushes and ink, hence brush = the written word) And no matter how well someone could explain a technique (the mouth) you could not fully understand the technique until you actually did it.

So, I can completely understand why so many people don’t believe in ‘ki’. I would have told you it was a bunch of c*** until I actually experienced it firsthand.

Cheers, thanks for the post, I respect your opinion.

So because people didn't think machine powered flight was impossible at one time, then that means Ki is real?! That is some horrible logic. It's called an appeal to ignorance. You have no evidence to support the notion that Ki is a real thing, so you appeal to the unknown saying that we might discover it is real someday, therefore it IS real. Sorry, but that just isn't sane.

If you think Chi is real, why don't you just claim the one-million dollars that is owed to you when you prove it? https://www.randi.org

Why is everybody getting so up tight about all of this. :-?

I believe that Ki exists, and I practise what is called Ki Aikido.

If somebody doesn't believe that Ki exists, so what. That's their opinion. It's just as valid as mine.

I don't feel the need to prove anything to anybody. If they come to my classes, I teach them what I have been taught, it's then up to them to make their own mind up.
