just outta curiousity, how did jiu-jitsu find its way to Brazil and is it true that judo is just a watered down version of jiu-jitsu b/c too many ppl were gettin' hurt in sparring?

so it turns out that different people learning to fight off of different systems, developed from the same older system, have a lot of the same ideas. guess they know what theyre talking about eh?

Eh, that's a mutated version of the story. Kano took out the potentially disastrous techniques (eye gouging, etc...) because you couldn't practice them full power. However, the techniques he kept and developed all COULD be practiced full power...in effect, he made the art more deadly because it wasn't theoretical anymore...his students had been applying the techniques exactly how they would in a real fight. As for how BJJ got to brazil...long story short, a good Judo student did some traveling and got down to Brazil. while he was down there, he taught the gracies some stuff, they took it and ran.
