JLee Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 what martial arts did/does Jet Li study or use. what does he use in his movies(even though most moves are fake) i watched kiss of the dragon for the first time today and its one of the few movies where he doesnt do alot of the fancy matrix crap like he does in some movies. what martial arts did he study?
specialk0783 Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 To be a real fan of jet li, you have to watch his old movies, not his new ones. His new movies are garbage martial arts compared to his old ones. The best martial arts movie ever made, IMO, is Fist of Legend. Its all real martial arts, no wires, and to my knowledge, its not sped up in any sequences. Its jet li at his best. I suggest you buy it or rent it. It was made in 1994 i think. As for his style...he is Wushu. He was on the Chinese Olympic Wushu team, and won 6 years in a row I BELIEVE...dont quote me.
battousai16 Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 wait, one of the first movies where he [/i]dosen't use fancy matrix stuff? like when he killed the guy with a billiard ball? "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
JLee Posted May 16, 2004 Author Posted May 16, 2004 ok, well that was fake, but i really like his style. as for "The Fist of Legend" ill be sure to rent that
Ironberg Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 That was a good movie. I own the VHS of Fist of Legend and can promise you a good thrill ride martial arts wise. It is a remake of a Bruce Lee film called the Chinese Connection. To be honest with you, I liked Jet Li's interpretation better. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Cocoa Puffs."
aefibird Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I like Jet Li's old stuff much better than his new (The One was terrible IMO). I watched Hitman the other day - he's quite good in that. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
Zorba Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 I have shaolin temple and black mask from jet li's early days. they are both quite good. Chinese Connection (or Fist of Fury for the rest of us that arent in the united states. could never understand why they cant call a movie the same as it is when its made) is a very good movie. i cant image a remake of it being better. ill have to hire both and watch them side by side. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and I am NOT a big man.Tae Kwon Do (ITF) - 1st Dan Black BeltShotokan Karate - 6th Kyu
Cheradenine Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Also check the 'Once Upon a Time in China' trilogy.
Drunken Monkey Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 i would say check out the first 'once upon a time in china' film (directed by tsui hark), the other 5/6(?) aren't that great... just so you know, it isn't a 'trilogy' by any definition of the word. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Ironberg Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 I like Jet Li's old stuff much better than his new (The One was terrible IMO). I watched Hitman the other day - he's quite good in that. What's wrong with The One? Other than the fact that it had no humor, poor characters, and mindless violence - you gotta enjoy the mind-boggling finesse of the last fight scene. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Cocoa Puffs."
