Dijita
We did an interesting drill last night. What we did is with a partner, one person closes their eyes, while the other person punches them in the stomach. The key is the punches have to come in random and not rythmiclly. Some of you might think this is odd, but it really teaches you how important it is to breath properly while always having your stomach tense. In a tournement, you can't always predict when you are going to be punched, and good fighters will watch the breathing of their opponent. When their opponent takes a big deep breath, the fighter punches in the stomach to wind them. It's difficult, try it sometime.
Ironberg
You can almost achieve the same effect by punching while you are slamming the other fist into your stomach. It causes you to exhale violently while taking punishment. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Ashigeru
We learned how to do that through experience. We did a lot of hard body contact in free sparring. Neat idea though, to do a drill for it! OSU!
strangepair03
Sounds like a great drill...can't wait to try it this week A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.Kyan Chotoku Sensei
ShotokanKid
That's kind of ... not really scary, but you know, just sitting there with your eyes closed waiting to get hit. Oahngoji
Hey, Dijita, you are a kyokushin student!!!!!! It is really rare to find kyokushin or a shinkyokushin student around here. Anyway, i really like the drill, and yes, the drill really improves your toughness of your body when unexpected punches come at you. I really want to pratice that drill TOO!!!
