i was talking to one of my coaches the other day and he was telling me that a majority of boxing clubs in cuba dont have heavy bags.

he was telling me that about 85-90% of their training is focus pad work. (that sounds like alot i know)

this is cuz focus pad work allows you to work on the 3 crucial elements in one drill that you can get from 3 separate drills.....

1. power - that you gain from working the heavy bag

2. technique - that you gain from shadow sparring and regular sparring

3. simulation of fighting - that you get from sparring with other people

with all the hours of focus pad work that cuban fighters do....no wonder they are such powerful fighters

You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!

We also use focus pads in our training together with the heavy bags. Advantage of focus pads is you can move in or out with your techniques as your partner holds the pad. You can gauge your distance moving in with yur kicks and punches. Its much hrder to hit a moving target!

But as SaiFights added you need to have a partner.
