Roger O. Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 (edited) Hello, I am terribly sorry for bothering everyone in the forum for a question such as this but I am out of options. I am looking for classes of either Jujutsu or Ninjutsu and in any form of these (only, though the Japanese styles). I live in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. Now I came in here not expecting anyone to live here, but rather someone that may know of a school here from a chain of thier school, or something that they came accross. I checked Yellow Pages, found one called "AURORA Martial Arts Bujinkan Ninjutsu", however when I called I was greeted by a secretary from some drilling service. I called twice to make sure I had the right number. Everything else is Taekwondo, Karate, Kungfu or Akido. Nothing on the Internet as well. Please, anyhelp will be very much appreciated. Shorinryu Sensei Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Ahhhhh...ya gotta love Google! This took me about 15 seconds to find this info: http://www.desakarate.com/ http://www.dunnigankarate.com/ http://www.threebattles.com/ I can't vouch for any of them personally, but it's a start. Copy and past this exactly (including the quotes) into https://www.google.com and see what you get back..that's what I did. "karate, Edmonton, Alberta" My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
Roger O. Posted April 27, 2004 Author Posted April 27, 2004 I appriciate what you have there but I am looking for a form of Jujutsu or Ninjutsu. Karate is one of those common ones I see in the yellow pages or in google. I forgot to put that one along side the others. I shall add it. Maybe I should put that I am looking for Jujutsu of Ninjutsu in the body, rather then the just the topic.

Fat Donkey Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Hey dude I live in Calgary. I would completely skip the ninjitsu aspect. If there are no jujitsu clubs then go look for judo clubs. They are usually cheaper than alot of dojos and the basics are the same as jujitsu. We got plenty of different dojos down here and a good 80% of them are not too kosher. I did see some guys come down here to fight in some mike miles stuff and I think they were Chinese Boxing/kickboxing. If u want to compete in the ring then find one of schools associated with mike miles because he has a monopoly onj the fight promotion down here. Also give some of the korean MA's a try. Like judo any WTF tae kwon do school will have plenty of good basics and is also an olympic sport. If you are looking to get into MMA then take either boxing or wrestling. For basic self defense and conditioning boxing is probably best. Finally try out alot of schools. A lot of first timers are easily conned by "Grand Masters" who spout alot of crap and get beat up by old ladies. If you need to learn how to fight and defend yourself you have to take a style where u will be hit and will be hitting other people. Thats why boxing, judo, wrestling and WTF tae kwon do are my choices because u will do a lot of sparring and get a lot of experience. Donkey
Dijita Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Hey I'm from Calgary as well. I'm not sure of where you can find a jujutsu or ninjitsu in Edmonton though. What are you looking to get out of martial arts? Do you want to become a good fighter? Do you want to challenge yourself? Or are you looking for something more traditional? If you want to be a good fighter and do some tournements, Fat Donkey is right. The Mike Myles kickboxing is a great place to go. They are very well reputated to creating some really high caliber fighters that do well in national and international tournements. Here's a link to the gym in Edmonton: http://www.mikemiles.com/gym/edmonton.cfm If you want to be a good fighter but also want the atmosphere of a more traditional martial arts school, you can try Kyokushin. That is what I am in, and I REALLY enjoy it. It's a form of a karate, but it is much different because it is considered a hard style because we practice full contact and our tournements are full contact rules as well. The Edmonton dojo is small, but the sensei there is VERY good, and the Edmonton dojo also produces some very good fighters that do well at the tournements.
