Zanbato
The truth is that almost any style can be applied on the street...its the material its the training...plain and simple...i could snap someones joints with hapkido or i could break their nose TKD...or maybe even a little of both...most schools these days combine arts so u dont have to worry about trying to go to a bunch of different schools...but always try to take in what u can....... Belts are for holding your pants up.......

SevenStar
it's both the training and the style. TKD is not known for street effectiveness, for example. But, with the right training, it can be effective. Some styles just fit the bill better - the fast punching and mostly low line kicks of muay thai are easier to apply in the street than high kicks, jump spin kicks, etc.
SevenStar
Joint locks are not useless, their just really hard to perfect and apply which will make them useless to a beginner or someone who hasn't perfected them yet, right?
Drunken Monkey
sometimes i don't get what the argument is about. a punch in the gut is a punch in the gut no matter what style you are doing. same goes a kick to the face. if you want to learn to fight, then train to fight using your style. you can be learning the most effective street fighting style in the world and a good fighter who happens to learn tkd can still beat you to the ground.... just because their training includes jumping 540s etc etc doesn't mean that is what they'll do in a fight. when the whole world knows that a good straight forward side kick/front kick will be the simplest way, are they going to try any flash? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." delta1
Back in the late fifties and early sixties, Ed Parker was saying "It isn't the style, it's the fighter." A lott of people have quoted him since, and I really doubt he was the first to say it either. But, most people really don't seem to get it. The best style for the street is simply Spontaneous Whoop-*. Freedom isn't free!
Batosai Imora
there is no best style for anything, you wont encounter the same situation every time , adaptibility and common sense play a huge role in this, "spontanious whoop *" works against inexperienced fighters most of the time try that on a real fghter and you will get everything and the kitchen sink, in other words you wont stand a chance, delta my advice for you is wise up. ladies email me for some fun
