KungFuMan Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Dijita, I will have to agree with the poster who recommended meditation. In the Shaolin arts meditation plays a vital role when it comes to training, fighting and indeed life. Practiced regularly it will help calm your mind and eventually you will feel very little if any anxiety and nervousness. Actually, the ultimate aim of this is for you not to feel anything but just BE. It is difficult to explain, but try to find access to meditation that is more relevant to martial arts and try it out for a while and then you yourself may feel the difference. KFM Only time and commitment will make your Traditional "style" good and give you real knowledge. "Marry" your chosen system as opposed to just flirting with it. Make it your partner for life and you will see how well and how complete it really is.
KungFuMan Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 47MM, No it is not exclusive to the Shaolin arts. But because I practice kung fu, I used the Shaolin arts as reference. Many japanese MAs use this concept as well and if I am not mistaken it is through zen meditation. I believe that this concept of "being" is the highest level one can achieve as a martial artist where one no longer is using karate or kung fu techniques but he/she `becomes` or `ìs` those arts and techniques. Sasori_Te Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Aren't you guys all jumping the gun here a little bit? They guy said he'd just made it to 10th kyu. He doesn't have enough technique and practice to be sure of himself yet. He just needs more time to get comfortable with his techniques and with sparring in general. Meditation might be a little too deep water for someone that's just learning to swim (so to speak). A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
KungFuMan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I believe if he can find access to an instructor, he can learn some basic meditation techniques, nothing too advanced, and continue to develope them through practice as a supplement to her karate training. It never hurts to have a head start. KFM Only time and commitment will make your Traditional "style" good and give you real knowledge. "Marry" your chosen system as opposed to just flirting with it. Make it your partner for life and you will see how well and how complete it really is.
47MartialMan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Perhaps he has a "medical condition"?
Gilbert Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 jeetkunedo explained it very well Even the most powerful human being has a limited sphere of strength. Draw him outside of that sphere and into your own, and his strength will dissipate.
47MartialMan Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Well enough for some to believe they can remain this way?
Gilbert Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 see....in every question a topic has...how everyone thinks differently. the mind makes them believe they have a good opinion. in fact all are good opinions. the person who thinks it and observes an image in his mind applying the technique gives a fact to himself. its all in the mind. Even the most powerful human being has a limited sphere of strength. Draw him outside of that sphere and into your own, and his strength will dissipate.
