SaiFightsMS Posted November 23, 2001 Posted November 23, 2001 When you train with your nunchaku do you use the traditional wooden ones with cords or do you use nunchaku with chains? What do you think about the pro's and cons of each?
Jiggy9 Posted November 24, 2001 Posted November 24, 2001 I train and have only ever trained with the chain ones..so i guess i cant say the comparitive pros and cons of each. Shotokan Karate Black Belt ==Defend the path of Truth==
Tobias_Reece Posted November 25, 2001 Posted November 25, 2001 Hi all Before I start, I would like to say that I practice traditional Matayoshi Okinawan Kobudo, so my nunchakus should be string, cos of the tradition. But anyway........ I find chain harder to use because of the Ball bearings - they spin. I just prefer string, thats all C ya "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. SaiFightsMS Posted November 25, 2001 Author Posted November 25, 2001 Well I have notices something with the ball bearings with the chains - they dry out and the nunchakus dont swing well. If your cord breaks it is not that difficult to restring. For the record I use the traditonal octagonal wooden nunchaku with a cord.
Tobias_Reece Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 SAi Yup, I also use those type of nunchaku. "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. ronryu Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 well if you are pacticing a traditional style you will jsut about always use the nunchaku with the cord for several reasond with the chain nunchaku useally the chain is to long to emplow the nerve holds and grabs wiht the nunchaku . i belive it was the movies that made the chain nunchaku popular . Befor i got inot a traditional class and understood exactly what the nunchaku were used for i did have the chaind pair . Now i would never poick a pair of them up . I too use the wooden octagnal cord nunchaku. Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo
SaiFightsMS Posted December 17, 2001 Author Posted December 17, 2001 Yes Ronryu I think that is how many of us become. The more we learn about the tradition and how the use of the weapon evolved the more respect we have for the traditional.
thaiboxerken Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 The cord is quieter. I like the ball-bearing chucks though. kicker Posted December 29, 2001 Posted December 29, 2001 I just use It for fun but I presonally like the chain better just cause i like the way they are when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
