sets of push ups

u think this is good? i just did 5 sets of as much push ups as i can do. first set i managed to do 41. then, i took a rest for 41x2 seconds. after 82 seconds i tried again. it became fewer and fewer and i always took a rest of push ups x2 seconds in betweed.

 

tomorow i'll have a terrible ache in my muslces, but that wont be so bad... when the pain is over (after maybe 2 or 3 days) i will do the same routine again.

 

do you think this is a good idea, or should i rather do pushups every day, but not my maximum?

Personally I would do pressups every day.

 

Have a look at this thread, and check out the link on it. Its an excellent martial arts training program, and it says to keep goin till muscle failure, ie. untill u cant go on anymore. Give it a read.

I'd do 'em everyday as well. Especially when you can do that many, because pushups have become an endurance workout at that level instead of a strength building workout.

Yeah, if you do them every day it will be more beneficial to you than doing them every few days (or when your arms have stopped hurting!).

Every one I know that has done them every day ended up with a shoulder injury - the rotator cuff can tear from the repetetive stress. It happened to me also. But, I used to do 300 a day... If you do do them daily, limit the # you do.

I don't like to work any particular joint or muscle hard for two days in a row - I think it's much better to have a recovery day in between (when you're either resting, or working different parts of your body, or working the same part but only lightly).

 

This allows the joints time to recover from any microinjuries and the muscles time to develop.

Currently: Kickboxing and variants.

Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.

Knuckle Pushups are great. 7x10 sets.

 

I agree, if you are going to do pushups, do them on your knuckles. One of the biggest advantages is that it will strengthen your wrist, so that way when you go to a tournement and you punch someone hard, it's less likely that you will injure your wrist, and your punches will be that much stronger.

 

4 months ago I could hardly do 10 of them, now I do 3 sets of 20... I'm excited! Martial Arts rules that way, always improving.

Yeah... if you can do up to 50 or 60 knuckle pushups in one set, your wrists are in pretty good shape. :wink:

4 months ago I could hardly do 10 of them, now I do 3 sets of 20... I'm excited!

 

thats pretty good for such a short time - how much have you been doing per day when u started and how did you develope?
