aefibird
Does anyone share their dojo space with another martial arts club? If so, how do you get on together? My Aikido club may be moving to another venue and hold classes in a hall that a TKD club already uses. We'd be using the place straight after them. "Was it really worth it? tommarker
We share a room at our University with a few other clubs. Right before us is a TKD class, and there is also wushu and kendo on other days in the same room. As long as everyone is respectful of their time limits, there shouldn't be a problem. The problems start when classes start to go a little long, they are slow to leave, etc. We used to have to share the room with the fencing team, and they always stayed past their time, left a mess (including foil slivers that would get caught in the floor and not swept) and were generally very rude to us. We usually responded with an equal amount of rudeness. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
SBN Doug
No issues with one club trying to "steal" members from another club?? Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
tommarker
Surprisingly, no. I think we're different enough from the other clubs, and viceversa that there's not too much a problem. There's 20 martial arts clubs on campus, but about 50,000 students, so we've all got more than enough of a base to draw from. I'm no longer posting here. Adios. stl_karateka
No issues with one club trying to "steal" members from another club??I've never had that problem. When I was studying IsshunRyu in college there was a Kung-Fu class right after us. We were good about getting out of there in time...good thing too --- cause some sememters they were ahead of us and they did the same. Currently there is a Tai-Chi class that comes to my ShorinRyu dojo right after our Saturday class. Once again we are always off the floor so they can start on time. Sometimes our sensei will have to remind us to quiet down --- usually no more of a handful of us dojo rats still there when they are ready to start. In both instances the styles were totally different....anybody ever do this where the style was similiar or identical? ramymensa
i think it's great when there's discipline and respect. And a willing student can study 2 arts at the same time (I can never get enough of training ) World Shotokan Karate
SevenStar
It should work pretty well, as long as everyone is grown up about it and nobody has an overly huge ego. Our school teaches muay thai, bjj and judo in the basement. Upstairs, there is a kenpo school. None of us are particularly interested in kenpo, but they are interested in MT and bjj, and we let them train with us. There is no ego, and we know we are goos at what we do, so we're not concerned with losing students, nor are they. Also, for people interested in training both mma stuff and kenpo, it's only a few bucks extra. We're all friends, and it's worked great so far.
