Ironberg Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 You got the name right - except finding a school on Capeoria is exceedingly difficult as it is a very difficult art to master, and hasn't been widely accepted. Capeoria is highly acrobatic. Pure self defense skills will probably be sacrificed for the sake of flash - but some people want that. I'm not saying Capeoria people are incapable of defending themselves, or find it difficult to acquire self defense skils - but it is definately no Krav Maga. Look around and if you find a good Capeoria school then more power to you. There are times I wish I had one that wasn't a few states away from me. Mc. Steve Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 From what I've seen in my local area, it's taught more as a dance and you have to be extremely flexible. But check it out if you do find a class. White Warlock Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Just to clear some things up, capoeira is a dance. The African slaves in Brazil hid their native martial arts within the dance, as a means to perpetuate their combat training through the generations, to eventually be used as a means to free themselves. It is an effective martial arts, primarily because of its unpredictability. trivia: breakdancing originated from some who witnessed capoeira being practiced. delta1 Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 trivia: breakdancing originated from some who witnessed capoeira being practiced. Interesting. Quick question: was that Capoeria that the rebels used to kick The Rock's butt with in "The Rundown"? Freedom isn't free!
Mc. Steve Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah, but I though maybe there were some places which taught Capoeria more as a MA, working with aplication and some grappling. Dunno. Wushu. Try google World famour for idiotography6th Kyu Wado Ryu5th Gup Tang Soo Do1st Dan Origami
