Dang Yod Tong Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Looking for ideas on marketing. What has worked for others to bring in new students? Thanks DYT
WolverineGuy Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Flyers at local schools, mostly elementaries. I'm also a substitute teacher. Since the kids mostly think I'm pretty cool, they also tend to be more interested in what I do. I snag a few in by just letting them in on my hobbies. Dang Yod Tong Posted April 11, 2004 Author Posted April 11, 2004 Currently I just do flyers, tear offs and car flyers. I do offer incentives for referals but that has motivated many. I also put our tournament results in local papers, its free when its news. I dont think schools will let us put up flyers in schools. DYT
Shorinryu Sensei Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 I've always found that flyers and posters never seem to work very well. I've also never had much with newspaper, television and radio ads either. What I do find that works great is youself, and your students. Basically, word of mouth. If your students think it is a good thing, they will often be talking about it and spreading the word. Plus, they will bring in a much higher calibre (in my experience anyway) of person that flyers and such will. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
ramymensa Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 A website. I've designed mine when I was a yellow belt. When I'll open my school I'll just promote my dojo instead of my sensei's and I'll take advantage of a site that's been on the net for quite a while World Shotokan Karate
kenpo4life Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Read the book gueriila marketing. It helps a lot. If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
Squawman Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Buddy Day. Students bring in how ever many friends they want to and you do just a basic class. The kids are in their uniforms and the friends are in street clothes. Hopefuly the friends also bring in their parents to watch but if they don't the parents have to sign a small permission slip so they at least know they are doing it. Then at the end of the class you pass out postcards for free trials and things like that.
White_Tiger Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 A nice yellow page ad helps. Whatever you do you have to have some consistancy. You can't run an ad for a week, and expect results.
monkeygirl Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 If you're willing to spend some cash... A nice sign on the road, with a letterboard where you can advertise specials and have your phone number. This is great if you have a high-traffic location. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
kenpo4life Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Like I said, read that book. It includes all ofthe info that the others gave. But it also has the best colors, days and fonts to use for optimal results. Dont waste marketing cash. Make it measured and concise. Read the book If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
