The jujutsu variant has the palm up and the hip rotation is stopped short so the person being thrown lands on their head. The judo version has the palm turned in or down and there is follow through so that the person thrown lands on their back.

How would the juijutsu version be practiced without breaking your partner's arm? returning_wave Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 The move is also foudn by accident if you try the round-shoulder throws seen in Heian Sandan (among others) wiht someone too short - harmless-ish throw becomes arm breaking technique if you want to practise it, learn the system of tapping out when you feel a lock or choke - you partner taps you when they feel it and you immediately release. 3rd Kyu - Variant ShotokanTaijutsu"We staunt traditionalists know that technique is nowhere near as important as having your pleats straight when you die."
