However, I'm pleased to report that my job in the local supermarket is comming along nicely. It's work, but I don't hate it either. Solo Posted April 18, 2004 Share Posted April 18, 2004 I'm not sure if this would be the same kind of Security as you're doing, but I was a Security Guard at a Hospital (Co-op lol) for a whole semester. I can tell you from the experience that making sure doors are locked and basically doing nothing but walking around is nothing compared to what you do in a Hospital..Everytime a panic alarm goes off you race to MHU (Mental Health Unit), making sure everything is fine or taking care of fire drills/lost patients... You have to restrain patients (2 point, 4 point restraints on a bed or straight jackets of some sort). You also have to bring bodies to the Hospital morgue when there is no one around, you assist Police Officers when they need you, escort nurses/doctors to their vehicles at night, give out parking tickets, cash pick-ups (meters/ticket machines). I guess this job isn't for most people but it's alright, I didn't mind it. I think one of the best things about it was meeting alot of people and being able to go anywhere in the Hospital, restrictions or not. karatekid1975 Posted April 19, 2004 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I also did security. I had two jobs. One was at the mall .... boring. I worked third shift mostly. You just make "rounds" and twittle your thumbs basically, unless an alarm went off. Which very rarely happened and 9 times outta 10 it was a false alarm (but we had to treat it like it was real). I also worked during the day there. That was fun. Shopping on shift Getting free-bees (coffee, food, ect). Saturday nights weren't so fun, though. We had to break up fights in the food court almost every saturday. That's when most of the shoplifters showed their faces. But greeting/helping people when needed was fullfilling. I also did security police on a college campus (lots of training for that, though). We were basically cops, except we couldn't go off campus and we didn't have guns. We did first aide/CPR, wrote tickets, broke up fights, answered calls/alarms, did investigations if anything happened or was stolen, did "bank runs," popped locked cars open, exsorted people, ect. They are always just starting when you are going home for a great weekend and a great night out! Think of a great summer's day and you can't wait to hit the town and the gorgeous girls but instead, you have to dress up and go to work Nah, get a bar job and get in the mix of it. unknown Posted April 25, 2004 Share Posted April 25, 2004 i am currently in school and security is a practical way of making money while having a tight school and training scheduale. i just book the shifts whenever i want and if i dont wanna work a certain weekend then i take it off. that is the plus side of security. the downside is that i am a floater.....meaning i go to a different site almost every day that i work and i never have the slightest clue of what im doing. the pay is crap. people treat me like crap. my managers and the people at head office treat me worse. i am almost done school and i am awaiting the results of my police written test and if i passed then im applying to the police force and im gonna tell my security job to go '*" themselves Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
