Rich_2k3
Did u know that he did judo when he was younger. He actually preferred it. He had to make the choice whether to do Go-karting or Judo, he chose judo but found that he kept losing so he went with Go-karting eventually. Rich, Is that tone really necessary? Personally, I knew the name "Michael Shumacher" was vagly familiar when I saw the title of thise thread, but I did not know why. I guess it is because my father used to build race cars, and he must have mentioned the name before. Please realize that F1 racing coverage is very restriced in the United States, and it gets very little to zero plublicity due to the severe compitition for sports in media over here. Personally, I am one of the small minority of Americans that prefer rugby union to American sports, but I can now only name one current F1 driver... Michael Shumacher. Shorinryu Sensei
Do u live in a bubble or somthing. Close, I live in Montana, USA. Now, if yu were talking Monster Trucks...I'd know what you're talking about! lolI know formula one racing is not so big in the US but u shud still have heard of him. Why? Have you ever heard of many baseball, arena football (American) or basket ball celebrities?p.s Have you even heard of ferrari or Formula One racing? somebody smack this kid alongside the head for me, will ya please! Of course I've heard of Ferrari...we actually have two or three of hem driving around town in the summer months, and yes, I've heard of Formula 1 racing also, but since I have NO interest in it, I don't follow it or who is driving them Do you follow NASCAR for example? DLopez
Seeing as this is a martial arts board, I wouldn't find it surprising that some, or even most, haven't heard of Formula One or Michael Schumacher, so I have to agree that Rich_2k3's tone was a uncalled for. I happen to follow motorsports quite avidly but didn't know Schumacher took judo as a kid. Interesting! Not to hijack the thread, but IMO, the reason Formula One doesn't get much coverage in the US is they only have one race (Indianapolis) in the states. In contrast, CART and IRL get far more coverage and fan following with less powerful cars, because they race in the US. And of course, NASCAR has all the open-wheeled racing leagues sucking their exhaust when it comes to coverage and fan following. I'd say NHRA is a close 2nd to NASCAR though, but different kind of racing. (Top Fuel is awesome!!) Frankly, I prefer NASCAR because the open-wheel leagues have gotten so technical that the cars almost don't need drivers - they could be driven by remote control! Aerodynamic downforce, electronic fuel management, forced induction... NASCAR doesn't use any of that. It's racing the way it should be! Sorry for hijacking the thread, but racing is my 2nd favorite hobby after my martial arts! DeanDahn Boh Nim - Black-Brown BeltKuk Sool Won"Dream as if you'll live forever. Rich_2k3
I'm sorry I was abit sharp in my post, I'm just so suprised that some ppl haven't heard of michael schumacher, because in the racing world as hole he is considered a legend, especially due to the fact that he has broken nearlly every record in Formula One racing. I myself am not much of a F1 fan, and have not watched any Grand prix's this season, purely because schumacher dominates the races and has won every single one this year by a large margin. DLopez, I definatly understand your point about the cars almost driving themselves, and although i'm not much of a racing fan I do prefer other racing types to F1, although I cannot dismiss that Formula one is at the forefront of modern racing and is basically the testing grounds for all on-road supercars. Shorinryu Sensei, things like NFL and NBA are not a good example because they are exculsive to the US, meaning ppl outside would probably not know any players. F1 on the otherhand is a world wide motorsport, in which racing teams from around the world participate. Michael Shumacher is considered a legend and his racing skills make him seem like a machine. Anyway away from racing cuz this is a martial arts forum, which unlike racing is where my passion lies . Soz again about the attitude .
