I didn't know about that. Anyway to be awarded the 8th dan at such an early age is ludicrous. I also think it was a promotion thing for Parker. Having the King promoted in your federation ... now that was a record.

I don't think Elvis had the years of training and the tenure for this rank, it means a LIFE in the MA ... to be awarded in an honest manner.

"Thank you, thank you very much" was Elvis's reply when he was presented with his new rank. 8)

I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.

Elvis was the man. Who would like to see an Elvis / Steven Seagal match??

Probably not Segal. Elvis was apparently, from what I've heard, the real thing.

That's what honorary means. Sort of like a university giving an honorary doctorate to a high school dropout for donating a million bucks to them. Elvis actively promoted AK at a time when Ed Parker needed to get hte word out. So, while he earned his black the hard way, Elvis was apparently awarded an advanced 'honorary' degree.

Good site, Red J.

I think it was Hank Slemansky that Al Tracy said Ed Parker sent Elvis to train under before he'd promote Elvis to black. But, that is trusting my memory a lot. Anyhow, it's not important. What is important is that according to all reliable sources, Elvis was good. TCB Flash!

That was a pretty good link Red J. Several years ago Black Belt ran and Elvis Article with essentially the same information.
