Reklats Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Who teaches there? Pro fighters? Fat balding tkd "masters" ?
equaninimus Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 http://www.tsk.com/mediagallery/video/intros/2001intro.html There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
Red J Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Good link. Tiger is doing well with his professionally made, faster-than-life video production featuring his state of the art Olympic sized dojo. I guess that's why your contract is roughly $160 a week. Someone has to pay for all that jazz. My favorite quote is "I started Karate at five and got my black belt at eight." The kids must love it there. Now, what did you do? I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
Red J Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 You should never walk out of any self-respecting dojo and feel like you have just bought a car. i don't know... i think i'd be quite pleased if i walked out of a dojo feeling like i've just bought a 288gto. It wasn't buying the 288gto that I was referring to, it was looking at the payment book... I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
equaninimus Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Nah, the instructors at TSK drive Iroc Z's. There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
Budderfly Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Our school is mixed martial arts but we pay a little over $1,000 CDN ($600 US) for a year and you get 2 one hour lessons and up to 3 open classes a week (if you want to go). We also don't charge testing fees in our school. It's included. We have the option to pay monthly as well and you can break the contract if you wish to leave.
1fastmx5 Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 It is a mixed martial arts school. BJJ, Thai Kickboxing, Karate. The instructors are 30'ish and are very in shape and seem to be extremely competent and aggressive. As corny as this franchise may seems to be they are actually having some students qualify for the Golden Gloves championships. Thats' says alot as thats no joke, especially for a Mixed martial arts school. Tournament wise TSK seems to do very, very well. I'm kinda torn as I like the school and the class I tried out. Very clean, very structured and yet tough. I'm gonna try another school and see how it compares. A school run by kickboxing legand Louis Neglia. I do have some reservations about studying too much of just that discipline. The head instructor at TSK said to me that the school is expensive but reminded me that there really isnt many mixed martial arts schools that cover these different styles as extensive as TSK. Looking around the Brooklyn area there really arent any to be found. Are good mixed martial arts schools normally more expensive then a typical TKD or kickboxing school?
Drunken Monkey Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 hehe, glad to know some peopleknow what a 288 is... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Red J Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 You know it all comes down to value. If you feel that you are getting value for your money then go for it. I think the point of this thread was for you to try another place, compare, and make an informed decision. So far you are doing just that. Mixed schools don't necessarily cost more. I think what you are paying for is the location, facility, quality, etc. Some great places can be real "holes in the wall". My first dojo was a back yard! Good luck and keep us up-dated. BTW, did you ever clarify the 65 group lessons? I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
