I recently read that 'Combat Hapkido' is like saying Combat Army...both are made for combat so stating 'combat' in the name sounds silly. I found it funny.

i agree, unfortunately i trained some of this "combat hapkido" in california, monterey area back in the late 90s, it was taught by some people that really sucked...i would have maybe given the instructos a yellow belt instead of black they were teaching things like charging into combat with your head down and go straight for them like a foot ball player.....man did i have fun with some throws and sweeps with those guys....

That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger

Are you serious! Rushing into combat with your head down! That deserves a lethal hook kick across the jaw - probably kill the suckers too!

are you guys saying that bold agression isn't effective? i've watched quite a few black belts get steamrolled by guys doing the strategy described above.

how would you deal with someone like warren sapp who just lowered his head and came right in at you? punch him in the jaw? (look up who warren sapp is before you answer :) )

not that this has anything to do with combat hapkido... which i know nothing about short that it looks complicated.

I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

I've generally found that if someone is charging at me, simply sidestep them and let them go flying past. No sense wasting needless energy. Also, try to make sure a sturdy wall is behind you as you do this. :D

My opinion-Welcome to it.

Tom makes excellent points I'd say on a charging attacker. There are many body shifting techniques designed for just such an occurance, but if you aren't trained in them, and don't practice them often (like daily), they won't work for you when you need them.

As for combat Hapkido...I've never seen it so I have no opinion. But think about combat ANYTHING...aren't basically ALL martial (warring) arts combat? Rather redundant I'd say.

My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"

If sidestepping is impossible, then I might recommend a knee to the face followed by an elbow to the base of the neck.

My original answer wasn't meant to be taken tooo seriously  The sidestep and wall crash would be followed by (cue sound effect) an audio of Curley the Stooge getting smacked by a shovel :D

My opinion-Welcome to it.
