Schools giving out BBs like candy

Not all schools or arts are like that. The "rating" BB needs more conditions. It's like saying "I have a college degree." The TKD school down the street in the strip mall is like the local community college.

on an OT note: has anyone seen the movie "Equilibrium"? THAT is a MA gunfighter :)

People feel intimidated about martial arts, I dont know why, its just the way the world is nowadays. It could be because they will not except that u can "beat them up"; in their minds they honestly think that they could quite easily beat u in a fight and the fact that you do martial arts means nothing becuse they think its all hollywood myth. Most ppl say, "Right, now i'm taller than him and i'm heavier so I would win in a fight", they basically weight two ppl out and the heavier one would win, but we know its not like that. Fighting is no different that a sport, except there is more at stake. Some ppl are better at a sport than others, its not just about how strong someone is but also skill, experience, speed, luck and a million other things and until ppl see it that way it will never change.

Intimidation works on a passive and active level. I.e., whether we want it to or not. People react to 'feeling' intimidated in different ways, but mostly it is fight... or flight. In the case of fight, you may get challenged, or tested. In the case of flight, you may be avoided.

It is best to not tell people of your skills, as it is oftentimes misunderstood. I.e., taken as a 'message' of intimidation, rather than merely a note of confidence, a moment to brag, or an offering of info as to your abilities.

Now that's a fact :karate: :brow: !

And about the bb's ... in my school you realy have to know your stuff before you will get your next belt. And that's just the way it ought to be!
