WolverineGuy Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Anyone here have trouble with the kneebar? For some reason, i cannot make this technique work. I have great difficulty getting the leg out to the side of the opponent, which I think might be the major problem, but I've never been able to make this move even feel uncomfortable. Any tips for common problems with this move? Wolverine1st Dan - Kalkinodo"Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a q-tip""There is no spoon."
soul fighter Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 I'm not having much trouble at all with applying pressure with the kneebar. I'm actually learning it from an Ippon Seio Nage fake, then roll to the side (like a granby), and apply pressure. If you need a secure grip on the leg, try putting the foot in your armpit. I've never drilled it from a guard-pass, but I'll be covering that my next class. THE MASTER OF THE WORLD'S FINEST!!SOUL SONIC STYLE!!
matt jiujitsufighter Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 it takes time and alot of sparring experience to even be able to try and attemp, you need to be proficient in doing armbars from mount, before you can even think about trying kneebars. the reason im saying this is because the end result is the same as an armbar, just imagine the knee is the elbow. im not discouraging you, by all means try, this is just coming from a jj blue belt. a little boxing, a little wrestling, a little muay thai, and a lot of jiujitsu( brazilian)
Reklats Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Pretty much all my attempts at kneebars have been when I'm in someone's half guard. You can rotate either direction into it I've been very successful getting into position, but people can wiggle into a position where its ineffective way too often.

Heh, trust me, I'm proficient in armbars...probably a little too much so, I win 90% of my matches with armbars. I don't know if its my positioning, or maybe I'm missing bracing the opponent's body some way. It's just very difficult to keep the leg in the correct position. Bah...stupid leglocks. matt jiujitsufighter Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 you have to control the ankle , you control the ankle and you control the leg, it takes time , its much harder to pull off a little boxing, a little wrestling, a little muay thai, and a lot of jiujitsu( brazilian)
