cross Posted March 12, 2004 Share Posted March 12, 2004 At our school we do both heian and the older pinan kata. Pinan has shorter stances, similar to what was originally used. As a general rule: -zenkutsu dachi is the same but sometimes a more relaxed stance is used. -kokutsu dachi is replaced by neko-ashi dachi -kiba dachi is replaced with shiko dachi or a relaxed stance.
