I currently study Korean martial arts. Tae Kwon Do for example, even though traditional, we emphasize kicking over hand techniques at a ratio of nearly 90%. How do kicking techniques figure into Karate? What is the emphasis of kicking to hand techniques?

Thanks for the info.

Andrew Green is right. I was speaking mainly of philosophy and not reality. Sorry. :D As a matter of fact, I'm going to withdraw my first post entirely and write it off to being over tired.

ours we practice in with the thinking that kicking techniques are there to bridge the gap between our opponent. for us karate is basically hand techniques.

why did we surrender lord?

It's probably about 80-85% hand techniques in my shotokan dojo.
