I actually live in arlington so that would be quite convinient and could you give me more info on the machado & guy mezger school? like websites or something i can check out? As for what kind of school... Traditional vs High Profile. Im not picky as long as the instructors are good. Im trying to get together a list of prospective places and check them all out.. see what is best for me. I don't know much about the Machado school except that it's another flavor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Do you want to compete or do you want a well rounded art for knowledge and self defense? You said, " I'm not picky as long as the instructors are good." The term good means different things to different people. I don't know what you know about the arts or what you think good is. I do know that Taika Seiyu Oyata is a well respected martial artist and a practitioner of One of the most well-rounded traditional Okinawan styles that I have ever seen. I don't believe that I've ever heard anyone speak ill of him or his skill. His personal students tend to be VERY skillful as well. I was fortunate enough to train with one of them. Striking, Locks, maybe a little Grappling, Initially I want more of the knowledge, self defense and fitness aspects. While right now Im swamped because of school in the future Id want the option to compete if i wanted to. He is proabably in the top 10 in the world today in his weight class. You seem to be under the impression that a world class NHB school wont be able to offer "Self defense" to someone looking for it. Guy Mezger has a black belt in karate and well as extensive kickboxing and grappling knowladge...I bet he can get some descent training there. MMA stlye training can be effective even if you dont plan on competing..besides as i said earlier he offers Karate and kickboxing classes aswell. I can't remember the other pretty boy's name that he fought. I do remember that they had an agreement not to pull each other's hair. *L* I will not comment on this thread further unless it directly relates to the original intent of the thread. If you want MMA in a sport context for competitoin then go with METZGER. I once trained in the OYATA linage and due to location can not.
