Draven Chen Zhen Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 ya it is nice. Great performences of Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. But shouldn't this be in the entertainment section. Greetzzz ChenZy :: Bless me father, for I have just killed quite a few men ::https://www.tricking.be
White Warlock Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Definitely shouldn't be in the 'Chinese' martial arts section. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro

ramymensa Posted March 1, 2004 Posted March 1, 2004 I'm not an admirer of Mr. Cruise, but I must admit I liked the movie and his performance. And the fact he spoke Japanese ... all my respect Interesting movie and full of "feeling" World Shotokan Karate
Pacificshore Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I'm not an admirer of Mr. Cruise, but I must admit I liked the movie and his performance. And the fact he spoke Japanese ... all my respect Interesting movie and full of "feeling" Kinda reminds me of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean. Although I prefer Johnny Depp's character to Cruise's in the Last Samurai. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
White Warlock Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 It was a beautiful movie, but even moreso because it was loosely based on a real event in Japanese history, referred to as the Satsuma Rebellion, which was led by the real last samurai, Takamori Seigo. Cruise's character was utter fiction, but a nice touch for the occidental audience. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
ramymensa Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Tom Cruise's character existed, but was French. He was a captain, Jules Brunet, sent in Japan to instruct their soldiers in an "european" style. Alongside the samurais from the resistance he formed an independent republic on the Hokkaido isle. It lasted only 6 months. After the definitive victory over the samurais, in 1869, he returned to France where he got in front of the Court Martial, afterwards he regained his rank. He finished as a general.
