Hehe. Yeppers. Judo, wrestling, BJJ and boxing are very high intensity. I gather it is due to their classification as sport systems and the need to build endurance for prolonged bouts.

Congrats on finding Judo. It is more than an art, it is a way of life as the Chinese characters signify.

Judo is largely voluntary, i.e. people dedicate their lives and their money to Judo, vs. trying to "make" money.

umm... Chinese characters?

the second character "do" is the Chinese charater "dao." The same character for Chinese Daoism. Yes, Chinese, not Japanese.

"Kanji" is "han-ji" in Chinese, referring to the Han dynasty in China.

“Ji” is character.

"Kanji" means "Chinese Characters”

I've never met an American Judo player that was familiar with the origin of the Judo characters.

Thank you.

I've never met an American Judo player that was familiar with the origin of the Judo characters.

Indeed, as i indicated in my introduction (in the introduction forum), language studies is not my forte', nor do i consider it a 'requirement' for understanding both the philosophies and the techniques. However, i am aware that 'do' means 'way', so i was not lost on your statement... just on your inference to it being Chinese, as opposed to the system being Japanese.

And thus endeth my excuse.
