superfighter Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 i attended my 1st ever judo class tonight, man it was awesome!! i gotta say grappling is so much harder than you realise, its one tough sport!
White Warlock Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Hehe. Yeppers. Judo, wrestling, BJJ and boxing are very high intensity. I gather it is due to their classification as sport systems and the need to build endurance for prolonged bouts. daoshi Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Congrats on finding Judo. It is more than an art, it is a way of life as the Chinese characters signify. Judo is largely voluntary, i.e. people dedicate their lives and their money to Judo, vs. trying to "make" money.
White Warlock Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 it is a way of life as the Chinese characters signify. umm... Chinese characters? "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro

rb Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 If it's written in kanji then they are chinese characters.
daoshi Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 it is a way of life as the Chinese characters signify. umm... Chinese characters? the second character "do" is the Chinese charater "dao." The same character for Chinese Daoism. Yes, Chinese, not Japanese.
daoshi Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 "Kanji" is "han-ji" in Chinese, referring to the Han dynasty in China. “Ji” is character. "Kanji" means "Chinese Characters” I've never met an American Judo player that was familiar with the origin of the Judo characters.
White Warlock Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 Thank you. I've never met an American Judo player that was familiar with the origin of the Judo characters.Indeed, as i indicated in my introduction (in the introduction forum), language studies is not my forte', nor do i consider it a 'requirement' for understanding both the philosophies and the techniques. However, i am aware that 'do' means 'way', so i was not lost on your statement... just on your inference to it being Chinese, as opposed to the system being Japanese. And thus endeth my excuse.
