Frustrating!!!

Recommended Posts

Bergen is by many, considered to be the martial arts capitol of Europe, due to the many olympic,EC.and WC medals that competitors from Bergen (Norway) has achieved in Kickboxing/Muay Thai, TKD and Karate.

However after intensive reasearch i have not found 1 single BJJ, Vale Tudo or Shootfighting studios in bergen. This is sooo frustrating! :kaioken:

Dont get me wrong, I love my dojo and karate style, but I would have loved to try something different to complement my fighting skills.....

I think that's a problem found by a lot of martial artists. Whatever style you do, if you wanna do another one you can almost garuantee that there isn't a club for miles around. :-/ Even if the style you pick is very popular then it will be 'Murphys law' that the nearest club that teaches that style is about 100 miles away...

Superleeds, if you want to try BJJ or similar, then what about Judo or Ju-jitsu if there are no BJJ, ValeTudo or Shootfighting clubs around?

Good luck in your search! :karate:

I have the same problem in my area. What I did was:

1) Found a guy who trained in BJJ and asked him to show me some techniques. Although this isn't a great way to learn it, it's better than not training at all. We spar about 3x a week.

2) I'm looking for straight Jiujitsu dojos in the area, not necessarily B jj. BJJ is a variation of the main theme, but the basics are essentially the same. I have a couple prospects but I'm just waiting for some extra $$ so I can start hitting one regularly.

3) I considered judo... there's plenty of those around, and it's also a very good style to get into.

I'm not quite sure. The guy who modified ji-jitsu into "swedish style jj trained quite alot with boxers and karatekas....so there ate basically more kicks and punches...and its apperantly more hardcore than regular/ordinary jj.
