The Saint
Black for training and white for competing. Black doesn't get all yellow from sweat, and I have a nice clean white one for competiton "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." blitzcraig
has anyone seen someone wearing the "zebra" striped ones that they show in the century mag? #1"The road to tae kwan leep is an endless road leading into the herizon, you must fully understand its ways". #2"but i wanna wax the walls with people now" #1"come ed gruberman, your first lesson is here.....boot to the head" #2"ouch, you kicked me in the head", #1"you learn quickly ed gruberman"
battousai16
never. i gotta say, century has a nack for putting out the ugliest uniforms my eyes have ever beheld, though. i'd rather just stick to solid colors, myself. still, to each his own. Budderfly
At Tour school you start with an all white dobak (or "gi"). After you move from novice to intermediate level OR you've shown commitment to earning your black belt you wear black pants and a white top, which is what I wear when I train. When I am teaching I have a red top and black pants (instructor's uniform). For demo team, we wear a blue top with a large school crest embroidered on the back and black pants. Black Belts wear black pants and black top. Edited March 18, 2008 by Budderfly

supergroup7
I've seen Beige, Black, and Grey gi, but all in all I like the white gi. The white contrasts with the belt very well. It's eye-catching. Although, I wouldn't mind a black gi once in awhile, when I'm in a "dark" mood...LOL My spirit is never daunted by training, but sometimes my body begs to differ. ramymensa
In our dojo and federation we ALL wear plain white karategi. Instructors and beginners are the same (except for the belt colour ). The white uniform tends to get dirty really quick, but it's elegant. No patches admitted except for those of the manufacturer. Buddhas Belly
I also like the traditional white gi ... but I tend to wear white pants and a black top because the black top is more slimming As for patches ... my original instructor's school has gone to a 3 patch system because he has been courted by 3 associations within Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu (and note, the association headed by Nagamine Takayoshi is not one of them). I on the other hand use only 1 patch and it's a simple patch of my design (blue filled circle on a background circle of yellow) .... I guess I'm as much of a renegade as my original instructor who left for VA to get out of the politics of Matsubayashi in the early 70s.
swooshfinn
Black - traditional uniform of the Kuk Sool Won student Come to think of it, I have only seen two non-black uniforms for Kuk Sool.... 1.) Kuk Sam Nim's Grandmaster Uniform - Yellow with purple trim 2.) Master's Monk uniforms - Gray or Green (hard to be certain with colorblindness) with red trim (either way, I love the monk uniform!)
