OldRookie Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 TKD-I wear white but like the looks of the white/black mixed. We are allowed to wear red or blue doboks if red belt or above but have only seen the 10-15 yr ages doing so. Black is reserved for 4th degree's & up. *I competed in an open tourney last year & an instructor & all his students had the sleeves cut off of their dobok's...Personally,I thought it was a disgrace to the uniform-but thats just me.. *1st Dan Oct 2004*"Progress lies not enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.""It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them."
aefibird Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 I've seen martial arts websites that sell sleeveless gi tops. I should imagine they're great for training in during the summer (although they maybe rub a bit round the arm hole?) but I wouldn't like to see people entering competitions in them. Gi's with sleeves look a lot smarter IMO. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
aes Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Our dojo has many gi colours. People that have gone to the WFMA championships currently wear red gis but our standard starts off with being all white. This is the one we would normally wear for competions and belt tests as well. As we progress we get rank gis. Where our pants are black with stripes on the side and the top changes colour as you approach black belt. Kanzashi Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 the entertainment level of your classes rests entirely on the color of the uniforms the students are wearing? battousai16, that's not what I said at all. I've been in all white Gi classes and mixed colours. It makes no difference to me what is worn, as long as it's acceptable to the Sensei. My entertainment value is not the issue here, nor are there pride issues. What I'm saying is that some variety makes for a change, I think, for the better.
Pacificshore Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Black gi, but as an instuctor, I can wear whatever, but I choose not too. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
krunchyfrogg Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Mink, wanna answer my question? "A life is not important, except in the impact it has on other lives."-- Jackie Robinson"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."-- Edmund Burke
battousai16 Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 i'm sorry Kanzashi, that's just what i interpreted when you said it made the classes less boring. that's why i asked. i hope i didn't offend you "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
CloudDragon Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 I wear whatever suits me at the time. In my school, assistant instructors wear black pants, and students wear white. We do this to identify "go to" people for new students and recognize our AI's for their hard work. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
rb Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Mink, wanna answer my question? The gi is white because it is made of cotton. Also the japenese belive it to be a colour (or lack of) of purity and cleanliness. That's why I roll my eyes when people spout off stories of how your gi must be immaculate while you never wash your obi (belt)
Draven Chen Zhen Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 black top and blue trouser with a both sides a red line. :: Bless me father, for I have just killed quite a few men ::https://www.tricking.be
