that's about 21 and a half stone.

strange how you mention what are considered 'sport martial arts moves' and not actual karate moves...

yeah, at least not the blatantly obvious ones...

anywho, having the stuffing kicked out of me by a bunch of girls is what got me into the martial arts! when i was a lot younger, about 6 or 7, there was a group of about 5 girls who would beat me up everyday during recess. my dad was so ashamed  i was eventually brought into a dojo and after defending myself once, we got along alright. i went to state in a science competetion with one of them, and 2 more (they were twins) and i used to go out to breakfast once a week. they were older though, so they went off to college and i haven't really seen 'em sense.

also, one of my first instructors was female, and she used to knock me senseless left and right, 2 days a week. i practiced at home really really hard for like a week, and walked in convinced i would finally beat her, and was so depressed when i realized she'd just been going really easy on me all along, and continued to effortlessly beat me! and then she moved before i could match her skill level... the pain of it all...

I've never been in a karate tournament, but in class, I fight with men all the time. They are a lot less sneaky about it, and if my techniques were better, would have no problem with them, excepting, of course for a few of them, like my Sensei and Sempai's. Always a welcome challenge.

We spar with no contact to the head, and light contact to the body, according to the rules. We wear protective gear as well.

Some men will be quite shy about sparring with a female, but I'm sure they don't feel shy with me. I'm 5' 10" and about 200 lbs. When I get a point on a guy they usually conceed, but usually don't let me get the next point. It's fair and fun.

If I do hit a guy in the privates, apologies are immediate, but most of the guys in our club do wear cups. No sympathy for the ones who don't. We usually practice the move to be either better aimed or better defended.

Some guys are actually there to learn, not just to be macho, and don't have problems with agressive women.

There's a guy I know who is a member of the same karate association that I belong to, although he's from another dojo. He hates having to spar with women, because he thinks that men shouldn't fight women, even with their consent! He's a real old-style gentleman and always apologises to ladies if he does have to spar with them.

I have been beaten in informal sparing practice by women of higher rank. It doesn't hurt my ego even if they were of my rank other than not wanting to be beaten by anyone in general.

I have found many women have better flexiblity than myself and can be very formitable competitors.

Ya I hear you on that Aefibird!

We have one guy, mid-30's, who had hit someone and I think broke a rib. Now, he's very easy to score on and doesn't really present a challenge. Lost his nerve or just doesn't want to do more damage. Maybe he feels guilty about it.

He still has good technique but is really reserve when it comes to hits.
