CPU Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 The only advice i can give you about defending against spin kicks - If there head height > duck if there not head height > become a brick wall and make sure your shins and forearms are well condititioned it more often than not puts your oponent off balance and causes there gaurd to leave openings, have fun! Rich_2k3 Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 I actually got my nose broken by a spinning hook kick in sparring about a month ago. The guy was pretty intimidating cuz of his size and his kicks were so hard (too hard for semi) that I tried to move out of range, unfortunatley the kick just reached me and whiped by nose, it hurt like hell, lots of blood I find that the problem with hook kicks is that they come from the right hand side, and they move very fast. I'm there ready to defend a back leg kick from the left and one of those beasts hits me from the opposite side. After that broken nose I'm quite jumpy about spinning hook kicks. My advice wud be to move into the arc of the kick and use a low outside kick block with ur left and at the same time use ur right palm to cover ur head, so u've basically got ur hole torso and head covered like one long block, u push towards the kick, putting ur opponent of balance and then counter attack, the key is to stiffen ur block and drive ur body like a human shield into the kick, and when u counter attack make sure its a fast one. After my broken nose I will think twice when trying to move out of the range of a spinning hook/heel kick "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
Rich_2k3 Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 For a spinning side kick I would step to the left hand side of it and bring my left arm across my body, pushing the kick along and making ur opponent over kick, u'll probably find that they now have their back to u, u can then do lots of things...
