Sasori_Te Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 I think I experienced one of these from someone else once when I was an orange belt. One minute everything was going great and the next minute my space was violated with a hook kick to the back of the head. At least that's what they told me it was when I got up. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
mac Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Bak Mei has, among it's kicking methods, ying jat tek - side shadow kick.
Ironberg Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 According to the movie: "Iron Monkey", a shadow kick is a rapidly striking kick that is similar in essence to a boxer's double, or triple, or quad (etc.) jab. You are basically kicking faster and more rapidly than most people can do so with their fists. How to train for that kind of speed though is the question... hmm (ponders the balance, musclular contractions, and chambering problems). "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Cocoa Puffs."
Drunken Monkey Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 and as we know, the movies are such a great reference source for the martial arts... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Ironberg Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 I know, I know... I wasn't trying to sound serious back there. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Cocoa Puffs."
WC-Strayder Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 I have heard that a shadow kick is a non telegraf kick, like the kick we use in Wing Chun: We stand on the back leg and kick with the front leg and B-coz we have allmost all weight on the back leg it is very hard to see when the kick comes, there you have yourself a shadow kick!. And DM is right, movies isn't a great refrence source for MA.... lol. If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!

WC-Strayder Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Aren't effective if you don't kick the knee???? Do that go for all styles or just for Wing Chun kicks??. Sure not all kicks are effective, it depence on how "lucky" you are when using them and where you hit, but too say something like that you are not just stupid, but ignorant too!. A shadow kick IS a non telegrafic kick, we have no weight shift before we kick and therefor you can't see the kick before it comes. How good it is, or effective it is, depence on the person who is kicking, not the style. If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
