I was reading some archived BB Magazine issues, and found where the leaders of the Hapkido Assoc. and Kuk Sool Won Assoc. were attempting to merge the two systems back in the 80's. It says they were not able to reach an agreement, but a number of schools in Korea split off and formed a Hapkido-Kuk Sool organization on their own.

Question to the group, does anyone have any more info on this almost historic event? Also, are there any other systems that have (or attempted to) merge in recent history? :???:

I don't know of any martial arts merging, but there are definitely schools which incorporate two or more arts together

The history of the martial arts are full of splits and differences of opinions. Many splits occured because of ego many to improve the art. Some for reasons we would never be able to understand.

Wouldn't it be great if a spirit of unification prevailed more in the martial arts.

Some split for poor reasons others for rather good reasons. Maybe a system is lacking and not willing to add. Or maybe someone disagrees with a higher up. You know there are many reasons and like I said some good some bad. Either way I like to see a bit of a mix to make a well rounded program. Or I like seeing the traditional styles adding to better their programs but maintaining a high level of tradition.
