Radok Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 I am about 5' 10". I am 14, so there aren't people my age a whole lot bigger. Plus I am very strong for my weight and fast. But for argument's sake, if there was some massive bully, I'd probably have to teach him a lesson with the balls, throat, and armbars. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
Elektra Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 taking out their legs - definitely! repeated roundhouse kicks about 1/3 or 2/5 up from the knee on the outside of the thigh: it'll wear the leg out and he'll soon collapse or front stomp kick on top of the knee as he's stepping in - this one's nasty, it'll mess up his knee for good i don't know about groin kicks/knees... from what i've seen, it often takes a good few seconds for the pain to really sink in - they can destroy you in the meantime, since all they need to do is get a good punch in eye-gouging is a much better "dirty trick" i think and jesus don't go for the teeth! it'll make them ugly but it sure won't stop them. might hurt you though i heard Gerard Gordeau was actually left with a tooth in his foot from that sumo guy in UFC 1, and fought with it stuck in there for the rest of the tournament - they just put some bandages over it anyway, if you're gonna hit something other than the legs, i'd go for the jawline or temple (reach?). Upper lip just below the nose is harder to get.
LeaF Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 Good advice Elektra but don't keep kicking the same spots, mix it up or they will catch on to you Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. If you cut yourself by hitting someone else's teeth you can get a nasty infection. They loose a tooth... you might lose your hand from gangrene. Ick. Not much of a tradeoff there. 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu
KarateMom Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 I had to point spar against a 6' 4" 250 lb. man I'm 5'3" 105 lb. female. I'm an Orange belt and he's a green belt. I lost 5-3 it wasn't for actual acculated points it was for fun. normally we spar first to 5 points I got in a few good techniques (I could move quicker but he is more experienced in sparring) ~*KarateMom*~
Thai_Kick Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 I when I spar/fight bigger opponents in Muay Thai, I use two main kicks to keep distance and wear my opponent down. Cut kicks (low roundhouse) to the inner and outer thighs will slow the big man down and if you have a strong cut kick it will drop your opponent to the ground. Second is using my teep (front push kick) to the belly everytime he punches this will knock the wind out of the opponent and will keep the distance. Limits Are Not Accepted. They Are Elbowed, Kicked And Punched.
G95champ Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 KarateMom Point sparring is a differant beast. I never win point soarring matches with other black belts. I loose more than my share to Kuy ranks as well. I have good speed but at the same time a big guy will never be as good as a little guy in point sparring. Simply because our strengths are not what it takes to be a good point fighter. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
shotochem Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 Amen G95, I have the same difficulty with point sparring. Those little mosquitos buzzing around!!!!! Stand still so I can hit you!!!!! Im not very tall but am built solidly, not fat not skinny, large upper body and it is very difficult to catch those little buggers in a point match. I have discovered that while free sparring I am a lot more effective. Even with most of the larger guys (except "Goliath" Im still working on him Im getting better ). The solid ones like us can take a lot more damage. When you are not concerned with getting hit it makes it a whole lot easier. When its for a point the action stops and you dont have that big counter attack. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
