j0rge Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Hello, I was wondering if there are significant differences in the way a kata is performed between Shotokan and Kyokushin Kai styles. Ossu... Knockdown Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 yes although the same root kata they will look different. visit your local Kyokushin dojo and watch.
Sho-ju Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 They are most different in kumite, a little in stance and yes, the kata are different. Both have merits.
Karateka_latino Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Since Mas Oyama trained in shotokan and Goju Ryu there are Katas from Both karate styles.

Seipai for example is barely recognizable, while others are more similar. He also made up a couple of his own such as Garyu "Reclining dragon"
