Ahazmaksya Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 Hey I'm Ahazmaksya and I'm new here. Ok. I want to know what you all think the best martial art is when it comes to, well, kicking someone's ass so they can't get back up. I mean I know I sound like someone who just wants to get in all these fights, but reality is I live in a tough neighbourhood and It's compulsory that I learn something to defend myself with. Thankyou very much.
Jiggy9 Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 I personally dont think you can say one art is the best or better then another. You simply can not compare them, because like a wise forum member once said, it's the person not the art in the fight that's more important. I think each art has itz advantages and disadvantages and no art can be perfectly suited for you. So you can never say which art is the best ...you might be able to say which art/arts are 'good' for you however. Shotokan Karate Black Belt ==Defend the path of Truth==
iamrushman Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 welcome to karate forums AHAZMAKSYA........ the best and easiest to learn, is the art of avoidance and not being there when the attack comes....otherwise it take years of dedication and practice to become proficient at the physical aspects of any martial art. just rushman's humble opinion...... rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Jiggy9 Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 true true.. me also thinks the best self defense is actually never needing to have to defend youreself. [ This Message was edited by: Jiggy9 on 2001-11-09 05:35 ] Shotokan Karate Black Belt ==Defend the path of Truth==

Great answer, Jiggy9. *bowin' with respect* Some people think that the best martial arts are the ones you can learn in the shortest amount of time. It's true that some martial arts can be proficiently learned in a shorter amount of time, but remember that it does not neccessarily mean it's more effective in the long run. The best martial art for you depends on how much time you are willing to put into your training. Just my humble opinion. g Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 i was doing kickboxing (fc, all kicks above waist) and kung fu but started boxing last week and am going to do judo once i find a good club. a good mix because both are easy to grasp the basics of and (because i know how to block kicks already) you can deal with most situations [ This Message was edited by: g on 2001-11-09 09:17 ]
Ahazmaksya Posted November 9, 2001 Author Posted November 9, 2001 Thanks everyone! I already did a bit of boxing, but I think I'll convert to Muay Thai. Also I want to do some grappling. I was thinking Judo, but since it's so common I think there would be a lot of bogus teachers around. BJJ would be perfect If I could find a club where they taught it. Is there any other grappling arts you could suggest?
Angus Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 If u want instant results and the ability to adequately defend urself against an average street thug after only a couple of weeks i suggest u do Muay Thai. I've introduced that into my specific style and i think it's great! BJJ is the best grappling art to do. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Karateka Posted November 10, 2001 Posted November 10, 2001 The best art, in my opinion is one that tries to teach you physically, mentally, and spiritually, and keeps you asking questions all your life. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
Jack Posted November 10, 2001 Posted November 10, 2001 Karateka I agree, but I think he more after a rough'n'ready approach to the Martial arts to get him out of fights quickly. For this Ahazmaksya, (I dont mean to seem bias or disrespectful) but to pick up the basics easily for a street fight, mabye Muay Thai should be the one for you?
