stl_karateka
I'll say katas its relaxing slow. lol, I wish someone had told my sensei that last night.... In the leson last night we did Gojushiho Sho and Meikyo all evening (there was just brown & black belts there) and by the end of the lesson I felt in need of a lung transplant I was gasping for breath that much. Gojushiho Sho and Meikyo done after one another at full speed and power really works up a sweat!! We did a kata burn Monday night --- whew!!! Our instuctor starts at the 18th kata and works his way down to the first. I know 15 out of 18 -- so I was feeling the burn. And we usually do each kata at least 2x. We started with Kihon (Taikyoku Shodan) and worked our way up through the katas until we got to one that no one knew. We got through 17 kata, each kata was done 3 times, at speed. After the 'killer' kata session we followed it up with a few rounds of press ups, sit ups and squats. We were all about ready to die by the end of the class! "Was it really worth it? blitzcraig
I guess it depends on how im feeling and whos in the class for the day. I also feel katas and "normal practice" are necessary for good sparring. When I first started I was all about sparring but now I like it all!! #1"The road to tae kwan leep is an endless road leading into the herizon, you must fully understand its ways". #2"but i wanna wax the walls with people now" #1"come ed gruberman, your first lesson is here.....boot to the head" #2"ouch, you kicked me in the head", #1"you learn quickly ed gruberman"
fireka
oh come on! We can talk about all the things you learn from kata, and it is fun, and your rigth it's karate's core, but everyone knows the rush that comes from good sparring, KUMITE!
