aefibird Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I love all aspects of karate, but I picked kata, because there's a lot of cool stuff hidden within kata that helps with basics and sparring. It was a tough choice to make, though!! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
Sho-ju Posted January 31, 2004 Author Posted January 31, 2004 I picked kumite. I didn't start karate to learn how to perform kata, I like them and they have a purpose but kata are a means to an end. Kumite.
Natural Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I'll say katas its relaxing slow. A karate punch it is like a dasvasted stick blow. Instead, a blow of Kung Was is comparable to a lash with a chain that has attacked, allaltra extremity one ball of ferro
stl_karateka Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I'll say katas its relaxing slow. What style do you do? I'm guessing a soft style? KarateForums.com Sempai
Karateka Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I picked Kata mainly because of the significance it has on my training. The sad thing is I am not particularly reknown for my Kata skills. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
aefibird Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I'll say katas its relaxing slow. lol, I wish someone had told my sensei that last night.... In the leson last night we did Gojushiho Sho and Meikyo all evening (there was just brown & black belts there) and by the end of the lesson I felt in need of a lung transplant I was gasping for breath that much. Gojushiho Sho and Meikyo done after one another at full speed and power really works up a sweat!! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." kotegashiNeo Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Kata because it encompasses all aspects of martial arts, it has kihon waza, kumite waza and everthing in between Kisshu fushin oni te hotoke kokoro

returning_wave Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 kata all the way! in my opinion kihon and kumite are just extracted from the kata so kata itself wins hands down in my book. 3rd Kyu - Variant ShotokanTaijutsu"We staunt traditionalists know that technique is nowhere near as important as having your pleats straight when you die."
