Is JUDO going to be the new MMA fad now?

Recommended Posts

Well I think it is because now there are new grappling systems like Ground and Pound and all of those other MMA Grappling Arts so maybe Judo would be a fad and also I think Jiu Jistsu would be one but probably not Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

it's doesn't matter if it's feasible(sp?) or not to become that good, with or without the gi. how many of us wanted to be like MJ? admit it how many of us wanted to be farve, smith, sanders, ect. and how many us went out and played that sport? i'm willing to bet over half of us did play that sport, maybe even for 1 season. plus judo is a good martial arts for soccer moms...i mean think about it, a martial art based on being gentle. the only turn off to judo is that if you don't know what's going on it's extremely boring.

There are two types of people in the world. Those that find excuses and those that find a way.

Ok let me bring this topic back into focus. What I'm saying is that from a technical standpoint judo will be much harder to implement into your MMA game -even more so without the gi- then just about any other MA out there.

Let's take BJJ for example. A person can train in Bjj for 6 months and get a good foundation of the basic techniques. Most MMA have a good working knowledge of BJJ but very few have advanced knowledge of the art. It's just like Royler said in his interview with Blackbelt magazine, "most guy's have a basic understanding of the art and just go with that" (I'm paraphrasing). Muay Thai is the same way. But Gi-less judo is another beast altogether. In my honest opinion I belive that Judo without the gi will take to long to gain proficient results within a resonable timeframe for MMA competitions, i.e PRIDE, UFC, etc. Karo said it took him quite some time to gain that kind of technique and he's been training in Judo since he was 9 years old.

And please lets not have this topic degenerate into a style vs style thing. That is getting quite tedious on this forum.

Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.

some of the the best BJJ no-gi teachers that I know of. Chris Brennan, Eddie Bravo, Dean Lister, and of course Mark Laimon his students are wicked good.

Any one know of other extremely good BJJ no-gi instructors?

it's got a high rate of injury though... the soccer moms may not like it for that reason.
