returning_wave Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 I know there are sai kata but I cant find details of them anywhere. Does anyone know where they're availble as vids/books/downloadable mpgs etc? I train myslef with sai, not as part of my dojo so i dont have an instructor who knows them. Any ideas? 3rd Kyu - Variant ShotokanTaijutsu"We staunt traditionalists know that technique is nowhere near as important as having your pleats straight when you die."
tommarker Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Murakami, Katsumi. Saijutsu: Traditional Okinawan Weapon Art. Tuttle Press. 2000 ISBN: 0-8048-3244-7 Sakagami, Ryusho. nunchaku and sai: Ancient Okinawan Martial Arts. Japan Publications. 1974 ISBN: 0-87040-333-8 I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
tommarker Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Fumio Demura's book on the Sai is a good start as well and gives some excellent comparisons of sai technique to empty hand technique. I can't stress the basics of sai enough. A lot of people think (like with kama) that flipping them around is the way to go. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

amp Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Sai is such a complicated weapon that I couldn't imagine not having it taught to me by an instructor. When I learned the basic kata, emphasis was on perfection and controlling the weapon along with stance and shifting. Know thyself.
