I really would like to learn Kendo, or Kumdo, whatever way you guys like to say it and I am gonna get a Bouken and a Shinai to practice with. So, what exactly is taught at a Kumdo school, techniques, exercises...?

Anyway, i'd love to do Kendo, in fact not too long ago I was lookin for a skool but its a few miles away and ive got 2 wait a few months to pass my driving test so I can get there. You do realise its very expensive to do, u have to buy equipment (like the armour) eventually which costs hundreds.

Here's a website for a kendo organisation near where I live. It'll give you a bit of background info about it. It is quite an expensive martial art, if you buy all your own equipment, as the armour can cost hundreds of pounds, as well as the cost of a bokken and/or shinai.

I'd love to do kendo one day, but I just haven't got the time at the moment :(

I had a friend who practised kendo for a while. he didnt enjoy it, and quit, but from what he said there are clubs who will provide armor (although to buy it is very expensive) and weapons, altohugh a bokken is not that expensive. http://www.playwell.co.uk

From what i hear, its sword strikes and parries - a little like fencing with swings and contact. But just a laymans view.

yeah, I've seen the prices for armor, I know it's very expensive... but just the idea of being to learn how to do all of those techniques like parries and stuff, and the techniques in fencing look very interesting as well. I just wish someone could teach me like a close friend instead of having to go to a school because of the costs and the time.
