Also is what kind of fighting equipment do u use, i've seen professional fighters use only ankle guards on their legs. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
martialartsresearcher Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Well. i have know ideai of what kind of training you do in muay thai. however from what my research has taught me. ( you do not have to be big to train in muay thai.) .I have heard of people in muay thai that are small. however they can almost knock out the biggest opponentt. however, it all depends on how good you are. i hope this helps. see ya.
TJS Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Muay Thai Comes from Thailand....It was designed for Thais....Thais are very small people..so yes it works well for small people also.
Rich_2k3 Posted January 21, 2004 Author Posted January 21, 2004 When I mean big i dont mean tall, i mean well built, u know muscular and strong. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
TJS Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 When I mean big i dont mean tall, i mean well built, u know muscular and strong. being strong and conditioned will help you just about anywhere but the techniques dont rely on strenght if you use proper technique.
SevenStar Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 At the professional level, equipment consists only of gloves and a mouthpiece. at amateur level you also have to wear headgear, and some sanctions require shin pads.
SevenStar Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 strength and stamina will come - it's unavoidable. As TJS pointed out though, the techniques don't rely on strength. Here's what a typical 1.5 hour class is like at my gym: 9 mins of jumping rope (three 3 min rounds) 1 min of one leg jumping rope (30 secs each leg) line drills shadow boxing various stretching exercises push ups rock climbers ab work new techniques various pad and footwork drills pad drills utilizing the techniques we went over that night and also techniques we are already familiar with. heavy bag work sparring neck wrestling we usually do 2-4 rounds, 2 rounds without the use of knees, and the last 1-2 rounds we will use knees while in the clinch. pad drills some type of murderour drill, like 5-10-5's or something pushups ab work stretch

We fight 3 x 2 mins for a non title fight, and 5 x 2 for a title fight. We wear the same equipment as the pros(only groin guard, gloves and mouthguard). Chris P.S. Size wise, i am not huge, im 5'10(174 cm) and weigh 70 kg(168 pound)
