Steinhauers
Thanks for helping me everyone. The double car garage idea sounded perfect for what I wanted. I only have a few more questions. How high would you think I need the ceiling? I want to learn how to work with the bo. How much would you think this project is going to run me? My Father is going to help me ( he is a carpender ) so I wont need to hire anyone. cost that i'm thinking at the moment is the Cement foundation, Wood for walls, floor, and roof. Should I have a wood floor? or a padded floor? if padded what kind of padding? I was thinking maybe the padding you put underneath your carpet and maybe i'll even put carpiting down. You all have been great so far. thanks, Seth
Drunken Monkey
you'll find that the foundation will cost quite a bit. i'm gonna bet taht it's going to be the most expensive part (all depending on ground conditions, clearing up, and actual size+depth of foundation requited). i think a good solid wood floor would be good; nice and polished. you can always get some good mats afterwards. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." You all have been great so far. thanks, Seth I'd go for a wood floor. If you need padding, buy some gym mats. As to the height, a bo is 6' tall. So your height with arms extended + 6' + 3' for extra clearence. I'm 5'10", my arms extend 18" above my head. So I need abou 7'6" to extend my arms, add 6' feet for the bo and now you're at 13'6", add additional clearance and you are looking at about 16' high. You only that height over the area required to train with the bo.
Steinhauers
I think I will just have to step outside and practice the bo since you was talking about a 16' tall ceiling.
Drunken Monkey
well, here in the uk it's a bit akward to practice weapons anywhere in the open... the local police don't like me playing wth my three section staff in the park. they're awfully polite about it though. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." WolverineGuy
I'm still looking for a place to put a school...I live in a townhouse, so there's no room at my place for it. All the local gyms already have karate clubs as well. *le sigh* Wolverine1st Dan - Kalkinodo"Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a q-tip""There is no spoon." aefibird
A karate room - waaaay cool idea! Make it as big as you can, the less lawn there is to mow the better. Cutting the grass is an evil occupation... Think about what you wanna put in your room - do you wanna have heavy bags and stuff? If so, you're gonna need room for those, especially if you're planning to leave them hung up all the time. This is probably dead obvious, but don't forget to check out stuff like planning permission/regulations before you start building it. I'd go with a wooden floor, certainly not carpet. Too hard to keep clean for a start and too much of an 'ouch' factor if you ever want to train in bare feet. Good luck with the karate room (I'm not jealous at all, oh no... ). Can we all come and train there when its finished?? "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
