Steinhauers Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Hello, I'm thinking of adding onto my house a room for Karate. Can you all help me decide how big to make the room. I want to have space to do Katas, sparing, heavy bag, and maybe weapons. I want to start the room off with just the basics. Later on I plan to add mirrors on the wall so I can watch myself. Thanks, Seth I study Shotokan
angelica d Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 What a cool idea! Hopefully one day I'll have enough cash to do something similar. So far I got a heavy bag for Christmas and want to put it in the garage along with my trampoline (!) but the garage is full of mess so I guess I'll have to wait a bit. As for your karate room, how much space have you got? IMHO the bigger the better! "Weaseling out of things is what separates us from the animals . . . except the weasel."- Homer J Simpson
WolverineGuy Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Amen to that...one of my students built a room that was bigger than our training space...I envy him. Wolverine1st Dan - Kalkinodo"Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a q-tip""There is no spoon."
Steinhauers Posted January 13, 2004 Author Posted January 13, 2004 Well I have my whole back yard. Not sure on what size it is. I would have to guess 90ftx40ft . I'm not sure how accurate that messurement is I just came up with it in my head.
Steinhauers Posted January 13, 2004 Author Posted January 13, 2004 Oh and the more I have to build the less I will have to cut the grass hehe

Drunken Monkey Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 and this might seem a bit obvious but make sure you have the ceiling high enough.... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Valithor Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I would imagine about the same size as a double garage... yep high ceiling are a great idea. Keep Smiling!
