ESA-Shotokan Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Thank you for that link. I love to see other katas. It is like a cross between shotokan's Bassai Dai and Bassai Sho, but different again. Interesting stuff. Shorinryu Sensei: If your email server is any better, I could email it to you? I just downloaded it and it is just under 6 Meg.
aefibird Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 One kata that always affects me is Unsu. I don't really know it yet, but watching my sensei perform it I'm always impressed by it. A 'turning point' kata for me was Nijushiho. Short but effective and it got me thinking a lot more about how I perform my other hata. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." equaninimus Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 I love Nijushiho. If you get a chance, learn the Shito and Wado versions as well. It is filled with escapes from grabs, chokes, etc... There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
kotegashiNeo Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 For me it was Saifa because it has counter grappling techniques in it. Up until that point I thought Kata was just a necessary evil to get my shodan but since then my whole view on karate and it's practicality has changed Kisshu fushin oni te hotoke kokoro
equaninimus Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Of the Naha katas, Sepai was the most eye-opening. It is a brutal little kata..no wonder I love it! There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
kotegashiNeo Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 most brutal naha shishoshin Kisshu fushin oni te hotoke kokoro
equaninimus Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Oh, yeah! Annan (Ryuei-ryu) is pretty mean spirited as well. There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!
