y2_sub Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 i study okinawan goju ryu and we practice circular blockd and strikes . in my opinion i think it is much more stronger and faster than a linear attack or blockNo, a straighter line is definitely a shorter path than a long one.A circular attack is much stronger than i linear attack , a linear attack is faster , and from my experience , i have noticed that it's much easier to use circular techniques , whats best is a combination of both Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
dtstiachi Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 My grandmaster in Tai Chi told us that when one gets to the higher levels, one will move both circular and linear at the same time. Comments? "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
y2_sub Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 My grandmaster in Tai Chi told us that when one gets to the higher levels, one will move both circular and linear at the same time. Mr Pockets Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 (edited) The entire idea of circular and linear is a waste of time and thought. Sometimes you move in a line, for instance jabs and crosses; and sometimes you move in a circle, like throwing a hook, uppercut, shovel punch, or whatever. Blocking should be niether (for those of you who block outside of your body.) To think in terms of linear and circular is really stupid in that it limits yourself to a ridiculous extreme. fangshi Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 As you can imagine looking over at the styles I study I am a circular guy . Best to do both in a balanced fashion , for me that NEVER happens . I do want to learn a more linear style but have yet to do so . So until then I will be circling and spiraling my way through life . We are not so much individual beings as individual points of perception within one immense being.
