I once saw a guy drop his sword in a form's competition. It nearly slid into the crowd.

As far as empty hand goes, just about everything has happened so far except a competitor attacking the crowd, but I'm sure that has happened too.

yes; i have participated in many tourniments in my studies. i feel that participating in competition is good for learning how to react to the unexpected and to refine techniques. also it gives the participant the kowledge and comfort that is needed to perform in front of crowds. for instance, like in public speaking...

i also feel that protective gear is a must to keep saftey and fun at the forefront of compitition.

don't get me wrong i don't mean that all compitition should be protected, such as masa yama's tourniment or true thai boxing because i love to watch those,(for you muay thai and kickboxing specialist) but it can be brutal.

what ever you choose to do it's your personal choice.

good luck

Thanks for all our input. I've seen people at tournaments just throw people for no reason, and the judges just stand there. That is what sucks!

I think IamRushMan has hit the proverbial nail on it proverbial head. The argument over which martial art is best can easily be solved with the the simple phrase (yes, Patrick, I know this isnt a competition related statement, but it is relevent)

ok, so i hit the wrong button there....

continuing: "what ever you choose to do it's your personal choice." can solve most arguments over martial arts. I choose not to enter competitions, I also choose not to spar all the time. This is MY personal choice, which I made. It makes us indeviduals.

I have friends that got kicked out of "Full Contact" martial arts tournaments for kicking too hard. Basically it is, "kick as hard as you want, unless you are a Muay Thai fighter". What a crock.

I know this one girl and it is just so funny to watch her fight , because she has quite a lot of weight behind her she thinks it intimidates people so on hajime she just runs at her opponent. Every time its just a case of sussing her out, and she never learns!!! i saw her once fight this really small boy and he beat her in like 30secs and she was so annoyed! I hate when people use their weight, it just dont work!
