Rich_2k3 Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 How many people shadow box at home, other than improving ur martial arts skill is it a good way of keeping fit? "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
Valithor Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 I use a little bit of shadow boxing in my routine, but not as a way of keeping fit. Keep Smiling!
cross Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 it can be good for cardio, depending on how hard you do it.
jeffrogers Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Yeah, very true it can be excellent cardio. Good at focusing your breathing with the hits. Same as form training. Except you can m ake the moves more realistic for fighting and change the patterns. Shadow boxing is excellent in getting the repetions in for muscel memory. working on relaxing the muscles while you hit so you work on relaxed speed. Also good for working on foot movement with it and hits. And basic form.
Rich_2k3 Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 So is it better to relax right through a punch when ur shadow boxing? becuause i'm usually quite tense when I do it. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee
tommarker Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Just out of curiousity, when you guys shadow box, do you practice specific combinations. As in, a set routine, or is it mostly freestyle? I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Rich_2k3 Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 I mostly go freestyle, feels more natural and alot faster, i'd only really do set combinations if I was practicing for a grading or touching up on a technique. tommarker Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 so what sort of set combos do you do? i'm always interested in hearing about some different combos. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Rich_2k3 Posted January 16, 2004 Author Posted January 16, 2004 Snap punch, reverse punch, snap punch, back fist, roundhouse kick(mid section) and then step through with a side kick(Head), thats of the top of my head, but I dont really do set combos I just make it up as a go along, using an arsenal of techniques as a go.
