ITSUKO Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 definitely reverse punch. I scored alot more with reverse punch nowadays. Just the other day, i was sparring with a brown belt in a point match. I caught myself doing a reverse punch in a horse-stance when the judge said yame (stop). Wow, i felt the force and its effectiveness.
Goju1 Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 They are used for different things so i dont consider one more effective than the other. E.g. If you use a roundhouse punch to go around your opponents guard then it would be more effective than using a cross which would just hit your opponents guard. Other times its better to use a cross because its more direct and you waste less movement. Bingo! Dang, Cross - you are always so right-on! I won't bother to answer myself anymore, I'll just copy and paste your posts! Seriously though, that's the only way to look at it. If you attempt a roundhouse and your opponent is ready for it, you're gonna be wide open to his cross . I rarely use a roundhouse punch, unless they are pretty much done and their guard is slipping, then a low roundhouse to the ribs, followed by a jab, then roundhouse to the head, and cross to finish. (Also a good drill)
